FEBA Seminars Benefits Worksheet

The most successful meetings have well-defined goals. The first goal for your Federal employee benefits seminars should be to educate potential clients on the value of their benefits and how they may be used. However, it’s not enough to simply provide information. Your seminar attendees should leave the briefing with information organized specifically for them in a useful format.

To assist seminar participants, we developed the FEBA Seminars Benefits Worksheet. This tool is used to help attendees gather their personal benefits information into one convenient location. By the end of the seminar, they’ll have their benefits consolidated in a format that allows them to easily share the information with spouses, family members, and you, making client meetings much more effective.

The front of the Benefits Worksheet captures complete information on the employee’s pension plan, either CSRS or FERS. Retirement dates and Creditable Service time can be added. There is also space to record a Retirement Annuity Estimate and Survivor Benefit Estimate.

At the bottom of the front page, the employee can record information on his Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), including both his and the agency’s contribution amounts. Account balances and investment allocations can be added. CSRS employees can include information on the Voluntary Contribution Plan (VCP) in the bottom right corner of the Worksheet.

The reverse side of the Benefits Worksheet assists the employee in capturing information on his group life insurance benefits (FEGLI). The types and amounts of coverage can be recorded for benefits and for retirement.

Seminar participants will also find the Social Security section of the worksheet helpful. Estimated benefit amounts can be obtained from the Social Security web site and recorded. Employees who may be subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and/or the Government Pension Offset (GPO) rules can use the boxes in this section to indicate their status.

The bottom of the worksheet offers space to record information on Health Insurance (FEHB), including types of plans, coverage, premiums and deductibles. Disability Benefits (CSRS or FERS) are recorded in the bottom center of this page. This information may be useful to a spouse or child who is trying to determine whether a disability benefit is available and how much it may provide.

In the bottom right corner on the reverse of the worksheet, information about the Federal Long-Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) can be added.

Imagine the advantages of helping attendees gather this information in one convenient location and in a format that can be easily shared. Think about how beneficial this information would be to you as you counsel Federal employees on their financial planning goals and retirement options.
